Upper East Side Apartment
New York, New York
Residential, 2024
Layered interiors of an apartment on the Upper East Side, incorporating a thoughtful mix: a vintage Spanish cabinet plays dynamically with contemporary curved upholstery. Exploring scale and geometry, a pair of vintage Pierre Legrain cerused oak armchairs orbit a chunky stone coffee table. The juxtapositions continue with the combination of the ornate, heritage fireplace and an ultra-contemporary, reflective, sculptural artwork by Jan Maarten Voskuil.
A painting by Jean-Baptiste Besançon sets the palette, deep in hue and neutrality balancing cool and warm undertones. A light and elegant seating area is grounded by a black leather corner chair and nearby sumptuous, moody shades of muddy green and brown upholstery.
Custom works, including an elongated ceramic chandelier by John Sheppard over a kidney-shaped table and a ceramic mirror by Floris Wubben, incorporate craft and artistry to reflect the tasteful eye of the homeowner.
